CME Course

The DermPath Slide Review is a continuing medical education course which is approved for 15 hours of Category 1 CME credit and is co-sponsored by BDL and MedChi, the Maryland State Medical Society. For over 18 years, the DermPath Slide Review has served the educational needs of dermatologists and dermatopathologists nationwide.

The DermPath Slide Review is primarily designed for dermatologists who read their own slides, but it is open to any physician who has an ongoing interest in dermatopathology. The course fulfills two roles:

  1. It is intended to reinforce and improve dermatopathology skills in the context of a fun and enjoyable in-office/in-home program.
  2. If you read your own slides, the course fulfills criteria as a voluntary proficiency testing program under the regulations of CLIA88. In fact, the DermPath Slide Review is the ONLY proficiency testing program in the United States which is specifically designed for dermatologists who read their own slides.

Why do I need to participate in proficiency testing if I read my own slides?

According to CLIA88 regulations, physicians that perform in-office dermatopathology must provide evidence of proficiency for accreditation as a physician-office lab. Dermatologists who read any of their own slides must have a system of verifying the accuracy and reliability of test results, at least twice a year for CLIA licensure. The simplest method for creating a system of proficiency testing is to enroll in a voluntary proficiency testing program such as the DermPath Slide Review.
